Earth Day Science Celebration!!

Jack Handlin

The Friends support local Outreach projects in both the community and at the Center.  The Friends major effort has been to host events that bring students, teachers and community members to the Center in an effort to publicize the Center before it actually opens.

The Earth Day Science Celebration included 160 students, teachers, and community members. In this event FOTHR  hosted students from Fernwood, Kokanee, and Bear Creek Elementary schools and Skyview Junior High School.   30 Junior High school students served as student mentors to the Elementary students.  The students learned how to measure water and soil quality, to create baseline data for an ecological field survey, and studied the different layers of the forest for a forest field walk.

Four students from Bothell High and Skyview Junior High schools joined Professor Rob Turner from UW Bothell,  graduate students, Nature Vision, King County and Friends of the Hidden River personnel to staff this exciting event.
